European travelers are increasingly shunning the United States in favor of other destinations, according to travel operator Tui. This shift is attributed to a combination of factors, including a decline in long-haul travel appetite and concerns over US President Donald Trump's immigration policies. Tui's CEO, Sebastian Ebel, noted a significant drop in US travel bookings, while demand for Caribbean and Asian trips has surged. This trend is supported by a European Travel Commission report, which revealed a 3% decrease in long-haul travelers planning trips to Europe from the US. The report also highlighted a 4% drop in US National Travel and Tourism Office data for December, indicating a broader trend of reduced US travel from Western Europe. Despite this, Tui reported its best first-quarter performance in over a decade, driven by its cruise business, which saw a remarkable 70% profit increase. However, the company's overall success is also attributed to its focus on maintaining high occupancy rates and improving profitability across all segments, except for hotels and resorts, which faced challenges due to natural disasters and one-time benefits.
