Imagine a golden opportunity for young filmmakers in Kent to bring a medieval fantasy to life—creating, starring in, and directing an entire feature-length film set in the distant past. And here’s where it gets interesting: around 40 young people will get hands-on experience both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, gaining valuable skills while forging new friendships along the way, according to local authorities. This initiative isn’t just a small project; it’s described as the largest endeavor of its kind undertaken by the Stag Youth Theatre in 16 years.
Simon Cossons, who has been leading the Stag Youth Theatre for over a decade and a half, shared his excitement, emphasizing the scale and ambition of this venture. The project is supported by a generous £2,000 grant from Sevenoaks Town Council, which will cover essential costs such as props, costumes, location fees, staffing, and the necessary filming equipment.
Filming is planned to take place across various scenic locations throughout Kent, scheduled from January to March 2026. Once the project wraps up, a special premiere is set to be held at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks to showcase the final film.
Councillor Chloe Gustard expressed her enthusiasm about the project, saying, “We’re eager to see the creative results these young filmmakers will produce.” The Stag Youth Theatre regularly offers engaging weekly workshops, theatrical productions, and film projects designed for individuals aged 11 to 18, nurturing the next generation of creative talent.
